Windows does not natively support using video files (like AVI, MPG, or WMV) as screensavers. To do this, you must use third-party utility software.
You can accomplish this by installing dedicated utility apps such as AVI/MPG/WMV Screensaver, Easy Video Screen Saver, or Push Video Wallpaper. Step 1: Install a Video Screensaver Utility
Download a trusted video screensaver engine tool like Easy Video Screen Saver. Extract the files if they are in a ZIP folder.
Right-click the .scr file or setup installer and select Install or follow the setup prompts. Step 2: Open Windows Screensaver Settings Press the Windows Key on your keyboard. Type “Change screen saver” into the search bar.
Click the matching option from the search results to launch the legacy Windows Screen Saver dialog box. Step 3: Configure Your Video Formats
Click the Screen saver drop-down menu and select your newly installed video utility (e.g., EG Video Screen Saver). Click the Settings button right next to the drop-down menu.
Use the Browse option inside the utility window to select your specific AVI, MPG, or WMV video file.
Adjust optional playback preferences, such as muting the audio, changing video sizing (fit/stretch), or looping sequences. Click OK to save the utility configurations. Step 4: Apply and Save
In the main Windows dialog box, adjust the Wait time to your desired idle minutes.
Check the box for On resume, display logon screen if you want your PC secured when waking up.
Click Apply, then click OK to activate the new video screensaver.
If you would like to map out the best performance settings for your media files, let me know which version of Windows you are running and how many videos you intend to loop.
